This morning I got pretty excited for a minute or two when I realized Britney Spears released a new music video. Yeah, I’m just slightly stuck in 2001. HOWEVER. She looks great, but I am a bit disappointed in the overwhelming amount of product placements – PlentyofFish.com, Sony, Makeup For Ever – I mean, I lost count! Definitely minus points for that one.
There is good news though, my friends. Radiohead also released a new music video today (AND an album!) and it doesn’t have a single product placement. Instead it features a very saucy Thom Yorke dancing and singing in a bowling hat. Plus infinity points! After you watch it below, go pick up your digital copy of The King of Limbs here.
P.S. My clever filmmaker husband pointed out that the reason Thom’s movements are so odd is that they probably filmed it in reverse, meaning they learned the lyrics backwards as well, and Thom mouthed it that way (Julian and Marc did that same technic for the Carried Away music video).
I owe you all a proper update, but until I muster up the energy, here’s a little something fun for you to watch. It’s my hubs’ latest video, one that he worked extremely hard on I might add! I guess Julian felt a little bad for making me listen to him editing this song for weeks on end, so he gave me a little cameo. First timer!
I’m a big fan of all his vids, but this one is especially fantastic. I think it’s my new fave.
Last thing. Let me take this moment to debunk the myth that Julian actually reads books… I’m the library nerd around these parts.
I must have been asleep for all of 2010 because somehow I managed to miss a lot of really amazing artists and albums that came out. Thank God for year-end album lists, right? Among the many is Beach House, who I’ve been loving more and more since first listening to their album Teen Dream last week. Coincidentally, they were on Conan last night playing my favorite of their jams, “10 Mile Stereo.”
Funny story: I totally thought it was a male singer. Until I saw this video. I blame the modern alt-rock front men with feminine, high-pitched voices. Enjoy. Oh yes, and two very big thumbs up for those sweaters.
Yes, I know it’s Thursday and I haven’t posted a lick about what I love, but I’ve just been too busy and as Julian would say, “the day got away from me.” But I’ve got a few minutes while my chicken marinates and my laundry is in the dryer (quite a life I lead) and I thought I’d share this song that I can’t stop listening to lately. It’s a little pop-y (she is Swedish, after all), but I love it.
EDIT: Apparently this song was on Gossip Girl this week, awesome. The music folks on that show always have excellent taste.
I have to say, I was also inspired to post this because of Amy’s post about her current work out playlist, which was inspired by another post by another blogger – OMG, it’s a chain reaction!1
What are you listening to these days? Share your faves! I’ve been having a super long dry spell in the music discovery area, which is quite ironic considering I work at Myspace and thats KIND OF WHAT WE DO, RIGHT?
E-V-E-R-Y-O-N-E I know has been buzzing about 9-year-old Willow Smith’s new paint-and-hair-whipping music video for “Whip My Hair,” her undeniably catchy first single. Yes, she’s quite talented and utterly adorable (and the spitting image of Dad Will Smith, right?), but I kind of prefer this performance by a white cockatoo who is mimicking her dance movements.
That is one talented bird. It’s kinda making me reconsider turkey this Thanksgiving. Ha! Seriously, check out how similar it is to the original video:
Isn’t that wonderful? Dancing animals are awesome. You’re welcome. Happy Friday.
via stylite and thanks to Hannah for passing this my way!
The Arcade Fire performance at the Shrine Auditorium last night was every bit as magnificent as I’d hoped it would be. They are indeed a magically energetic group of musicians, running all around the stage (and the venue, for that matter) and didn’t miss a beat. Sadly, I have no photos, as I was too busy dancing myself absolutely silly and I really apologize to the girl who was standing next to me- I couldn’t help myself. My favorite was of course when they played Neighborhood #3 (Power Out) and everyone seemed to just erupt (bonus for Win opening the song by calling everyone “you bunch of Botox motherf*$@#rs!”).
For now, here are some bad YouTube videos I found that capture a small bit of it.
This was one of my favorite parts, I just love her:
SO. PUMPED. FOR. THIS. Still a month and a half away, but ahhhh! Especially after seeing this insanely funtastic video of the band playing Power Out/Rebellion unstaged. How is it possible for one band to be so consistently amazing? Guess it’s not that hard when you have like 18 members. Watch!
I’m loving this little History of the Music Video infographic from the team at myspace. Everyone loves a good infographic, especially when the topic at hand is music videos – a treasured piece of media that has come close to extinction but is getting a nice revival thanks to the internet. Speaking of, you must check out myspace music Romeo, the new music video app for the iPad that streams videos based on your mood. It’s also avail on myspace and the iPhone.
Random, fun events are one of the reasons I love working at myspace. Just when you think you’re getting completely overwhelmed and feel like you’re about to drown in a sea of meetings, emails, and work – bam! They tell you that Tokyo Police Club will be playing a free show on the rooftop patio of the office. And there will be a nacho bar.
The band, who by the way, are much, much younger than I thought, played songs from their new album Champ and had a little ping pong tournament with some of the employees here. Much fun had by all.
