I’m loving this new tee shirt design on Threadless. The shirt, designed by Frederik Wepener and Ross Zietz, is called peliCAN and shows an image that all of us are far too familiar with by this point – an oil drenched bird. All proceeds from the tee will benefit Gulf relief and clean up efforts through healthygulf.org. If you likey, you better buy now, because it’s already selling out fast. Of course, if it does sell out, they’ll most likely make more.
Don’t you think it kinda looks like one of those Rorschach ink blot tests? Except that would make for a super lame t-shirt. This one is way cooler, and is for a good cause.
If you were looking to get me a gift, this would work just fine:
I would wear it in Paris on my honeymoon. Look! It even comes in sweater form. Ixnay on the eniepantsgay, though. There’s only one woman who can pull that off and her name is Dr. Pepper.
Trying to find a wedding dress that is well made, beautiful, fits my style and doesn’t cost as me a month’s pay is quite a challenge. I’m thinking of saying to heck with it and following this bride’s example and going for the shiny ruffled top and white denim look.
What do you think? Could I pull it off?
In all fairness, the venue itself (“Appalachian Party Barn“) could be pretty if decorated the right way – minus the hay flooring. And seriously, what do you expect to find when you’re looking for wedding venues in the South. The photos of past weddings are half the fun of looking.
I don’t want to be a cat blogger. Really, I don’t. But I can’t resist posting Noah Sheldon’s photography series of “Cats Wearing Clothes.” It’s just too perfect.
Here’s my next question – is being engaged enough evidence to rule out my being a “cat lady?” The men at my office say the rule is “if you have 3 or more cats past age 30, you’re a cat lady.” Agree/Disagree?
I originally posted this story on the SocialVibe blog, but it is such a great campaign that I want to share it with my personal audience. The products we buy make a huge impact on manufacturing practices around the globe. Each purchase is a vote, whether you’re buying handbags, coffee, or dog food. Don’t spend recklessly, research where your money is going. Onto the post…
What kind of a handbag are you carrying? Do you know who made it? How about where it was made, or under what conditions? Invisible Children launched a new program today called MEND and we are kind of in love with it.
MEND isn’t just a place where you can buy unique and handcrafted handbags, but where you can also watch videos of and read stories about the person who made that very bag. Take for example, this video about Monica, who loves to dance, has a talent for making people laugh, and oh yeah, is a former child soldier.
Monica is just one of many of the creative handbag makers that you can learn about through MEND. All of the handbag makers are are former child soldiers, victims and survivors of the 20 year war in Uganda.
Or at least that’s what one, maybe two fashion designers think. Last months, dog lovers around the world got straight showed up as famed designer Miuccia Prada debuted some meow-tastic pieces in a runway show for the 2010 Miu Miu collection. Sure they’re hideous. Sure I wouldn’t touch those high-button collared pieces with a ten-foot pole. But the point is: THERE ARE CATS, ALL.OVER.THOSE.CLOTHES.
and if you know me, then you know – cats are, well, kinda my thang. Long live felines! Woof!
The only thing that would make that better is if they were walking cats on leashes down the runway. But I believe that could be considered animal cruelty and I ain’t down wit dat.
Can’t forget this white Azzaro dress, which I understand was quite a hit, also embroidered with a cat.
I feel like that warrants a quick blog post, don’t you?
Her royal highness, Anna Wintour, took time out of her busy schedule to appear on David Letterman to promote The September Issue. Best part of the interview is after she finishes talking about how much she appreciates hard work and the creativity that goes into making an issue of Vogue, David gets right to it and asks, “Have you… ever put someone in a headlock?” Her reply: “Maybe you.”
I came close to spontaneous combustion when I saw the trailer for The September Issue in theatres this weekend. I’m not sure how I missed the buzz about this online (what kind of a blogger am I?) but I’m making up for it now. The full-length documentary chronicles American VOGUE Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour as she puts together the Sept 2007 issue, which is the thickest, most looked-forward-to issue of the year. As the trailer says, in the world of fashion, the year begins with September.
As snaky as Anna is (they wrote The Devil Wears Prada about her, for crying out loud), she has current and future fashion trends in the palm of her hands. If you have any love for fashion, you can’t help but have respect for her (even with that highly outdated hairstyle). When it comes to fashion, she is IT. Aside from that, she’s completely neurotic, which makes for great entertainment. Bring it on!!
The film debuted at Sundance but they held the NYC premiere last night. Here’s the trailer.
Stripper heels. I’ve never been a big fan of completely raunchy looking high heels, but I have been known to wear a pair or two of towering shoes in my day. I don’t think you’ll be catching me in any of these redonkulous pairs of shoes from various designers’ Fall 09 collections (modeled below by editors of NY Mag)… and it’s not just because I can’t afford them!
To be honest, I’ve worn more flats in the last year or so than I have since before I was old enough to wear heels. Ballet flats are particularly nice, as are sandals that feel like you’re walking barefoot and knee-high flat riding boots. I’m pretty sure it’s doing my future 60 yr-old knees a favor, too.
Despite the highly coveted and respected Anna Wintour (Editor-In-Chief of VOGUE, for all you n00bs) making a “heels are out” statement by wearing a pair of flat sandals in public, I still don’t think I’ll be giving up my heels anytime soon.
I should really start updating my personal blog more. When you blog for a living, you don’t always feel like coming and “talking about your life,” you’d rather just live it. But being the person I am, a talkative one who has 5,000 different interests, hobbies and passions, I can’t afford NOT to share things with whoever may be reading this. And at the very least, I want to look back on what I am thinking/feeling/loving at the moment.
My newest obsession is Tim Walker, an English fashion photographer. I recently came across a post on strawberry lemonade about Walker’s work and was intrigued. I’ve spotted his work in past fashion editorials (when I had more time to be trolling things like that, before I had a job that consumes my life), but I’ve never truly investigated his work. I am thoroughly in love with the above dress lantern image, and several others that I’ve found.
If anyone that loves me is reading this, they will get me thesebooks for my birthday.
