to life: a surprise wedding dance

Posted: September 10th, 2010 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: funny, music, wedding | Tags: , , | 0 Comments

These never really get old, do they? What makes this surprise wedding reception dance different and amazing is the level of creativity, collaboration and love that went into it.  Everyone involved (and it really seemed to be EVERYONE) rehearsed in secret for a month beforehand. How nice it must have been for that bride to sit back and enjoy a show starring her new husband and closest friends and family. Adorable!

L’Chaim!

And thanks to Mikela, who always finds the best videos.

countdown: 47 days to arcade fire

SO. PUMPED. FOR. THIS. Still a month and a half away, but ahhhh! Especially after seeing this insanely funtastic video of the band playing Power Out/Rebellion unstaged. How is it possible for one band to be so consistently amazing? Guess it’s not that hard when you have like 18 members. Watch!

the history of the music video

I’m loving this little History of the Music Video infographic from the team at myspace. Everyone loves a good infographic, especially when the topic at hand is music videos – a treasured piece of media that has come close to extinction but is getting a nice revival thanks to the internet. Speaking of, you must check out myspace music Romeo, the new music video app for the iPad that streams videos based on your mood. It’s also avail on myspace and the iPhone.

tokyo police club on myspace rooftop

Posted: August 11th, 2010 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: music, work | Tags: , , , | 0 Comments

Random, fun events are one of the reasons I love working at myspace. Just when you think you’re getting completely overwhelmed and feel like you’re about to drown in a sea of meetings, emails, and work – bam! They tell you that Tokyo Police Club will be playing a free show on the rooftop patio of the office. And there will be a nacho bar.

And free beer.

The band, who by the way, are much, much younger than I thought, played songs from their new album Champ and had a little ping pong tournament with some of the employees here. Much fun had by all.

cover: tiger mountain peasant song

I think I have a thing for covers. My latest discovery comes by way of Sweden (along with many other wonderful things – gotta love the Swedes), in the form of two adorable girls (they go by First Aid Kit) covering Fleet Foxes – Tiger Mountain Peasant Song. It’s a great song, and these two girls are very talented, which makes it an enjoyable watch.

i’m into: no cars go

Don’t you love when you re-fall in love with a song years after it’s been released, become popular, and then faded into the past? I really like Arcade Fire’s new album, Suburbs, but lately I’ve been more drawn to the old single ‘No Cars Go’ from their 2007 album Neon Bible.

I never even paid much attention to it back in the day. But it’s been on repeat lately for me. Listen here:

‘band of horses – the funeral’ by liz lee

Posted: July 17th, 2010 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: music | 0 Comments

Despite being married to a Top 100 YouTuber, I spend minimal time watching videos on the site, and even less time watching shows on MTV (I don’t even have cable). But I found this video on my girl Whitney’s blog and was really blown away by this girl Liz Lee’s musical talents. I guess she’s got a show on MTV or something about her life as a high schooler, and so you’ll notice clips of comments from “mean girls” about this talent show performance of her covering Band of Horses – The Funeral (a personal favorite song of mine).

Check out Liz below:

P.S. For another great cover of The Funeral, listen to this cover by Serena Ryder & The Beauties. It’s gorge.

together incredible: new zealand, iggy pop & orcon broadband

Posted: June 22nd, 2010 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: music, social media | Tags: , , , | 0 Comments

You couldn’t really peg me as a person who pays attention to film and/or advertising awards, but when I saw this recent Cannes Grand Prix winner posted on my friend Boz’s blog, I couldn’t resist sharing it. It was made by a small New Zealand agency called Small Group to promote a tiny local broadband company called Orcon.

The whole shtick is that Iggy Pop (who is in Miami) uses Orcon to find 8 New Zealand-based musics to help recreate “The Passenger” via webcam. Because New Zealand is awesome and so are most people who live there, they had over 200 fantastic auditions and actually wound up taking 9 people instead of 8. But that’s beside the point. The final product is pretty awesome and worth a look, so have one:

don’t know what rdio is, but i like it

Posted: June 8th, 2010 | Author: Sarah | Filed under: music, social media | Tags: , , | 0 Comments

So, I have a rdio account now (thanks, David R!). I’m still not quite sure what makes this different than your last.fms and Pandoras, but I’m guessing it’s kinda like that, with a little lala.com (R.I.P.) mixed in. So far, I’ve synced my iTunes library (which appears pathetic without half my music on it) and listened to the Broken Bells album (excellent, btw).

If you know what makes rdio so darn special, please fill me in. If you want to follow me, be my guest. If you want an invite – I have 10.

bits & pieces: june 5, 2010

Happy weekend! I hope whatever you’re doing, you’re comfortable, content and … colorful? I was trying for three C’s but I’m too lazy. Some copywriter, eh? Anyway, enjoy these links around the www. Xo! Sarah

The 10 Lowest Paying College Majors (no surprises here… social work and elementary education top the list. My first college major, Drama, came in #10. Good thing I set my sights elsewhere!)

Totally cute and geeky iPhone app magnets.

Set your calenders, people! 05:06:07 08/09/10 won’t happen again until the year 3010.

This creative chick made a graphic for every single episode of LOST. I’ve only checked out page 7, because I don’t want to see any spoilers (we’re only halfway through the 2nd season)!

If you’re into music and typography, you’ll love these colorful, lyrical posters.

FatPhoto – the MySpace UX/Design team’s new favorite app. Takes a photo of you and gives you a fatty makeover – BRILLIANT! That’s one way to feel good about the way you look.

I found this blog post while searching for a Grizzly Bear song, and felt like laughing and crying at the same time. The author hilariously analyzes a photo of tech blogger Robert Scoble after he bought an iPad, and scrutinizes why everyone in the photo seems to cheer him on as if he just ran a marathon. Why are we humans so silly? In other news, the playlist on that blog post is quite good.

Huggie’s copywriter put me to shame. Their new slogan kills it:

Check your AT&T data usage and make a neat little chart. Don’t worry, it’s easy. I don’t know why, but I think this is cool.

Ready and…. CUTE.

@AwesomeAlert is…. awesome. Or as they would suggest, “breathtakingly wonderful” and “simply magestic.”

Jonathan Acuff (Stuff Christians Like) on treating secular media like it’s Satan’s newspaper, and why it happens.

8 Reasons Rich People Hate Their Lives. I found this a few minutes after I grew tired of torturing myself by looking at all-inclusive resorts in tropical locales. The study is a look at the business principles of two very successful entrepreneurs – one of whom is Richard Branson. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND READING THIS – especially if you want to be rich AND happy.

“Wise, happy millionaires know that real wealth, the kind that lasts and multiplies, comes from creating value. They cultivate empathy rather than trying to amputate it. They focus on contribution. They solve real problems and make the world better.”

And now, to die laughing (please forgive me)
