Perhaps best of all was that I beat my own personal best time – finishing at 28:17:03, averaging 9:08/mile and placing 11th in my division (25-29F). I think I placed 135th out of all females & 429th overall, which isn’t quite as impressive, but I was running alongside some elite athletes, and this was my FIRST race! I didn’t know my time until many hours later today, and to say I was shocked would be an understatement. When I saw a dad with a baby stroller pass me, I thought for sure I was going to have a super low ranking.
It was a truly awesome experience, and as soon as I caught my breath, I wanted to go again. I think I am addicted! I am so looking forward to the next, and training for a 10k!
Huge thanks to my husband for waking up at 5am with me on the day after he got home from his work trip in Chicago, just so he could watch me cross that finish line. I love him!

Congrats!!! That is amazing.
You’re so cute! Of course he’d come (but WOW, that is pretty cool that he did it right when he came back)! I’m so jealous of you doing this, it’s totally inspiring me to run now (which is not a good idea because I’ll finish a mile in, like, 15:00 blech!) Congrats on your first run!!
Congratulations! That’s really amazing! I ran my second on on Saturday, and believe me I know how you felt when you got passed by the stroller guy… I got passed by a wrestler who had run the whole race with another wrestler on his back.
YAAAAAAAY!! Good for you! That’s an awesome time! Congratulations on your first race…first of many I’m sure!

Hi Sarah, Charmaine here. Didn’t want to freak you out with the “fake” name. It’s my google account name. I added a picture of my beautiful granddaughter hoping it would make you look further if you recognized the photo.
Love your blog.
Hey Charmaine! I’d recognize that sweet face anywhere.
I’m glad you’re enjoying my blog… I haven’t been updating as much lately, but maybe that will change soon. We’ll see! It was great seeing you & Bill at Tab & Justin’s house. Hopefully it won’t be too long before it happens again!
