And I’ll be MARRIED! I’ll be a WIFE. With a HUSBAND. A hot, funny, sweet husband, but still – a husband. How crazy is that? What a year this is going to be.

Leave me comments with all the best things to do and places to go in Paris!

Be still, my heart! The Pioneer Woman is holding a contest for the best cat photos. It’s pretty much the best thing I’ve seen online all week… if you are a cat lover like me, you’ll want to check out these photos. And these. And these and these. I wish I had some better photos to submit of Scout & Pep!

I love everything about this whimsical and playful wedding! From the Tim Walker-esque parade, to the colors (magenta and navy), to the stage, to the vintage photo booth. I am so jealous. But mine will be super fabulous, too. :)

The way men see colors vs. the way women see color. Hilarious… and true!

A Mystery Science Theatre 3000 haiku. I recently fell in love with this show thanks to Julian, though my Dad has been a fan since the beginning of time.

Leave it to BestWeekEver.tv writer Michelle Collins to provide the most hilarious Oscar awards recap, ever. She said all the things us less-witty-people wanted to say.

How to Organize Huge Copywriting Projects: A cute, clever and believe it or not, practical way to organize your data & thoughts before jumping into a big copywriting project. I love the image of index cards and clothespins.

OH EM GEE – if you haven’t laughed yet today, take a look at these squirrels playing astronaut with coconuts on their heads. Now close your eyes and be thankful that such things exist. There are no words.

5 Rules For A Better Life: I love this! Among my faves: “Don’t compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about” and “Life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum.”

A 26 Gigapixel panorama of Paris. Thankfully, I’ll be able to explore the city on foot in exactly two months from today, but if you aren’t so lucky, feast your eyes on all 2,346 of these photos, which add up to a high-resolution panoramic view of Paris.

The Sex and the City Guide to Blogging: As Julie Roads points out, if SATC premiered in 2010, Carrie would have been a blogger. This article takes dating advice dished out by Ms. Bradshaw and applies it to the current blogging industry. Not nearly as silly as it sounds – read it!

The cutest robot I have ever seen, in my entire life. Made out of a matchbox and other recycled items. A-dorable!

L’Oreal has a new ammonia-free hair dye system called INOA. Supposedly, it allows you to dye your hair without all the yucky damaging side effects. It does cost about 15% more, and is being tested in about 200 salons. I’d love to see how this pans out. I am obsessed with pastel hair right now.

How To Make Homemade Bubble Bath – a nice little tutorial! Way cheaper than you’d think.

This dress from Marc by Marc Jacobs – at $600, it’s a bit out of my price range, but I love it so. When will I learn to sew?

- Too funny.

How have I never seen this video? It is supremely incredible – look at those sequins and trailing lights! Spectacular!

Marching Forward

Posted: March 12th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: work | Tags: , , | 8 Comments »

I love March. I only just realized it, but I love the month of March. Back when I lived in Virginia, and even sometimes here in LA, it’s always been a time of rebirth – a fresh season, warm weather, clean houses, birds chirping, easier breathing. It’s the end of the dreaded winter hibernation. It’s also the month my brother & mother were born, but that’s beside the point.

This month holds a lot of new beginnings for me, primarily in the career arena. After careful deliberation (hah), I’ve made the decision to progress to the next chapter of my vocational path – in plain English, today is my last day at SocialVibe. As of March 22, I will be joining the MySpace team full-time as Senior Copywriter.

My experience with SocialVibe has been one of the greatest in my time as a working adult. I am blessed to have met and learned from each and every person on the team and am eternally thankful for the opportunity they gave a silly young girl like me. I will continue to fully support their fabulous work and am looking forward to all the wonderful products, projects and ventures they have up their collective sleeves. Thank you to the entire team for putting up with my witty and sometimes inappropriate remarks (you know you love me), and for making the last couple of years more colorful (really, with the Pink Balls) and exciting than I could have ever hoped for. I am tempted to start naming names, and I started, but then I realized I was listing off the entire company one-by-one. So I’ll just thank Bula, Benny, Cookie, Anna, Jake, LV and Charlie instead. ;) And Charlotte. Definitely Charlotte.

And I’m sure you’re all asking, as I did, “MySpace? Srsly?” So listen – they ain’t going NOOOOWHERE. I have great respect for the MySpace product, brand and team and am exhilarated at the thought of being a part of their regeneration. Plus, there’s the people I’ll be working with. To say that my new coworkers are brilliant is an understatement. I’m VERY excited about the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead of us. For all you naysayers who say “um, MySpace will never be Facebook” I say – GOOD! That’s not the goal. There is only one Facebook, and more importantly, there is only one MySpace. And I’m proud to be a part of the team that will make it the greatest it can be.

Marching forward!

P.S. What is MySpace up to these days, anyway? Read this. And this.

We Are Happy To Serve You

So, I am planning on posting a little tribute about why I am so in love/lust with the city of New York, but I just came across something so divine I had to post it now. You know those little blue paper coffee cups? They are a NY icon. I am delighted to have discovered that you can buy them, complete with “We Are Happy To Serve You” logo in a reusable, ceramic version. For only $12.

Apparently this is nothing new, as they seem to be available all over the world, but I’ve never seen them before. I want two.

Things I Love Thursday

It’s been a fun (and lonely) week, a week filled with I miss yous, goodbyes, hellos and anticipation. It’s also been lovely spending time with myself, I have forgotten what it feels like to be alone. I still prefer the company of my man, but it’s good to know I’m not totally desperate without him.

  • Mini strawberry cheesecakes from P.F. Chang’s
  • Watching the Oscars all the way through for maybe the second time ever
  • Waking up early, then going back to bed a few hours later for a delightful nap
  • New harddrives! I’m a nerd.
  • Texting with my Mom.
  • The fact that my iPhone still works* even though the screen looks like a spider web.
*Note: I use the term “work” loosely – we all know AT&T’s service leaves much to be desired.

  • Green tea by the gallon
  • Sandman tea, too
  • The Grill ‘Em All burger truck. Their Hannah Montana veggie burger is incredible!
  • Watching episode after episode of Sex & the City and not having to make excuses for it.
  • My coworkers at SocialVibe. I will miss seeing them daily so very much. :(
  • The way Pepper plays with her mouser – this leopard-print catnip mouse she’s had for 7 years – and makes this strange “brrrrr!” noise like a bird.
  • Picking out my wedding dress fabric & lace. Ah! So excited!
  • Waking up in the middle of the night just long enough to realize it’s raining really hard, then drifting back to sleep.
  • Mrs. Meyer’s Gardenia Diffuser Scent – just ordered this 3-pack on Amazon! SMELLS HEAVENLY! And reminds me of Spring 2009.
  • Buying good pens and writing in my real journal.
  • Deep conditioning my hair. Redken All Soft Heavy Cream is divine AND they don’t test on animals, so I can feel ok buying it.
  • Finding out the sex of Julia & Tommy’s baby – TOMORROW. I’m so excited I could cry. You’d think it was my own baby.
  • Soft tacos from Chipotle.
  • Hangtime with the cutest 18 month old ever, Charlotte.
  • Girls nights that turn into nights out with new coworkers.
  • Heart to hearts with my Dad.
  • Reading about all the shenanigans my friends will get into at SXSW.
  • Lauren beginning a search for a new work BFF:
“Need a new work BFF to start Monday, 3/15. Please send applications to lcarroll@socialvibe.com and don’t forget to include the following stats: – number of cats you own – number times per week you’re willing to eat at Chipotle – average number of times per day you refer to shoes, makeup and/or shopping in general. Writing samples will be helpful. Thanks and good luck.”

That’s it for now. It’s a short, one, I know – but I’ve got to get busy preparing for the weeks to come.

Happy Birthday to my brother, Ben!

Posted: March 8th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: family | Tags: , | 1 Comment »

Ben, I doubt you are reading this. You’re probably somewhere in Tucson drinking scotch with your fiance, lighting something on fire, being awesome and talking about the latest manly, death-defying stunt you pulled. But in the off-chance that you are reading this, I want to publicly wish you a Happy 25th Birthday. I’m so glad the days of us spending years apart are behind us – with you in Arizona and me in LA, it’ll be more like when we were kids and less like when you were living in Korea or Germany. I’m so proud of all you have become and can’t wait to see where life takes us both. You are truly one in a million. I love you forever, brother bear.

Bits & Pieces: March 7, 2010

HAPPY SUNDAY! I’m not so happy today, because my fiance is out of town for the next week (sad face), but at least I’ll have plenty of time to catch up with my girlfriends and…. blog. Ugh. Come back, Julian! In all reality, I’m looking forward to making a dent in my reading list and watching shows and movies he’d begrudgingly agree to watch.

satc

Here’s a list of random stuff that will hopefully distract you from the list of Sunday chores you should be doing right now.

- New app tells you what music is hot on MySpace right now. Say what you will about MySpace, but one cannot deny their reign as King of the music world. We Are Hunted created a new radio app that lets you listen to MySpace artists that have had the most playing action in the last 60 seconds. It is a phenomenal tool for discovering new music. And it’s not nearly as pop-heavy as you’d think – quite the contrary, actually. It also comes in iPhone and Android form. Try it here.

- Museum of Celebrity Tweets – hilarious graphic illustrations of celebrity’s tweets.

- Fortune’s list of the world’s most admired companies. No-brainers include Apple, Google and Amazon.com.

- Easter Bunnies Will Steal Your Soul. Just like the creepy Santa photos blog, but instead of child-molester looking Santas, you’ve got rabid looking Bunnies.

tumblr_kyob3dctFb1qamucio1_500
Terrifying.

- Food, Inc. director wearing organic tux for Oscars ceremony – and I truly hope he gets to show it off! If you haven’t yet watched this film, get on it. It will enlighten you. Don’t stop there, if you’re moved by the documentary – there is a wealth of information out there about our atrocious food industry just WAITING to educate you!

- Norway’s luxury prison/spa has more amenities than my apartment does. A gym, training room, chapel, library, family visiting unit, football (possibly soccer) field, a school, and, most unbelievably, a sound studio.

- The World’s Most Confusing Bookbag – Obama! Sonic! Harry Potter! Tulips! Crap!

- Nerd Merit Badges – I think everyone was going gaga over these a couple weeks ago, but I just found them. They’re like little FourSquare badges, only they’re REAL, and they err on the side of nerdiness (i.e., a badge for reaching Inbox Zero). Back in 8th and 9th grade, I used to go crazy over some patches on my bookbag.

- This picture of Darth Vader riding a white cat into battle with a light saber is also moderately funny.

- The Cat Hammock Coffee Table – Sorry for all the Geekologie links, but I couldn’t not include this baby. My cats would looove to lay on this – even more so because they can be adored while lounging – the top is made of glass. Julian- don’t think I will forget that you said we can get this.

- Dating Tips from 1938. Some of these are still very important and hold true today, for example, not passing out drunk in the middle of your date (never a good look.) Some others, however, not so much:

tumblr_kxvmubIsyK1qa49tx

- A tweeting bike that shares your location as you cruise around town. It was created to encourage and aid social media connection for an upcoming festival in London…. sounds cool! And only a little bit dangerous!

- Man watches 30 chick flicks in 30 days to better understand the opposite sex. Sheesh. I don’t even know if I could do that. So what did he learn?

“Love is tender, and any real relationship is based on forgiveness, compassion and vulnerability.”

- Martha Stewart pitches new TV show, ‘Help Me, Martha!” – I imagine this would be something like Clean House, but instead of Neicy Nash’s tough love, slobs would get a dose of Martha’s honey-dipped words of wisdom and a how-to solution for their toughest household problems or entertaining disasters. If I had cable, I’d watch, because I love anything Martha.

- There’s going to be a live-action/CGI film version of The Smurfs? And Katy Perry will be the voice of Smurfette? Well, ok. I guess I’ll add it to my Netflix queue – this will be interesting. So, what else can we raise from the dead and remake? The Snorks? Fraggle Rock?

A parody of the incredible Old Spice commercials that Julian is now obsessed with. Being the Apple lover he is, this must have sent him over the edge.

Keep Calm & Carry On

I’ve seen this poster around the interwebs, but I’ve never been sure of just who or where it came from. Just kidding it’s a famous English poster from WWII, and don’t I feel like an idiot. Anyway, I found a chick on etsy who makes/sells them – and now I’m determined to make it mine. These are just wonderful words to live by – especially for over-anxious nuts like me.

a video game wedding invitation

Posted: March 6th, 2010 | Author: | Filed under: funny, wedding | Tags: , , | No Comments »

Kudos to this creative and geeky couple, Darino and Niko, for making a video game wedding invitation. The Mario Brothers-esque game requires viewers to complete the game to get the invitation.

The gamer-geek appropriate packaging for the game:

booklets1_klein-500x375

Very adorable, but I don’t think I could get away with sending something like this. For starters, I think half of my friends are too lazy and/or busy to play a game just to get info about my wedding, and the last time I checked, none of my Grandparents knew what 1337 meant.
